Welcome to Ms. Mitschrich's English 10 Class!

Welcome to grade 10 English. You are about to embark on a magical journey though the English language. Throughout the year you will be reading, analyzing, critiquing, and discussing various genres of literature. You will also have the opportunity to write essays, short stories, poetry and do research. This will be an exciting year as we will be going on many adventures through the stories we read and the stories that we share. I encourage students and parents to look at this Wiki in order to keep up to date with various assignments and class information. In addition, periodically there will be interactive homework assignments that parents and students can work on together.

You are required to come to every class on time and prepared with the following materials:
- Pen
- Pencil
- Binder
- Lined A4 paper
- Scrap book with unlined paper
- English 10 text book
- Dictionary
- Markers or pencil crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
- Energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude

To be successful in English, you must:
- Speak English at all times
- Ask a lot of questions. There is no such thing as a ‘dumb’ question. Ask! Ask! Ask!
- Be on time to class
- Unless otherwise specified, I will only accept assignments that are done on A4 paper, neatly written, and double spaced.
- I may refuse to accept late assignments
- Plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated. The penalty for plagiarism will be a mark of ZERO and you may be sent to speak with the principal. Plagiarism is copying work from others and handing it in as your own. This includes, but is not limited to copying off the internet, copying a friend, having a tutor do your work for you, and copying text from a book without acknowledging or giving the original author credit. Plagiarism is against the law internationally and is an offence that will get you expelled from university.
- Cheating of any kind is not tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to using E-dictionaries during tests and copying off of others. The penalty to cheating is zero.

The year will be divided into four terms (these may change):
Term 1: Short Stories
Term 2: Autobiography and Informational Text
Term 3: Poetry
Term 4: Novel Study

Evaluation:
60% Class Assignments
20% Class Participation (includes homework, English usage in the classroom, participation in class discussions)
20% Term exam
