homeFor the next month we will be exploring the meaning of courage. We will be reading stories, news articles, poetry, and even talking to our family members about courage. Below is what students will be expected to learn by the end of the unit. See attachments for specific assignments.

Courage


Students are expected to learn:
- Plot components: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution
- Elements of fiction:
o setting,
o characters,
o types of conflict
§ man vs. man
§ man vs. self
§ man vs. environment
- Literary paragraph – Introduce title, author, do not use first person
- Short story – write a narrative
- Literary Writing: What is a hero? Compare and Contrast stories of different people who have shown courage. How has their idea of courage changed because of the readings?
- Expose students to different forms of literature (short stories, essays, song, poems, info text/news)
